De Villiers cops ban

SOUTH AFRICA wing Jean de Villiers has been banned for two weeks for dangerous play in the team's 31-17 defeat by New Zealand.

De Villiers' lifting tackle on Rene Ranger in the first half of Saturday's match at Wellington's Westpac Stadium was picked out by the citing commissioner.

The ban means he must sit out next Saturday's Tri-Nations clash against Australia in Brisbane.

Already in this series South Africa lock Bakkies Botha has been banned for nine weeks for butting All Black Jimmy Cowan.
