GETTING a fringe can be a step too far for the cautious but now you can look before leaping

The winge ... try before you chop

TAKING the plunge and opting for a fringe can be a styling step too far for the more cautious among us but thanks to the latest hair accessory you can now look before you leap.

The "winge" - or wig fringe - is a clip-on extension pioneered by celebrity hair stylist Daniel Hersheson that gives the illusion of a full fringe without the need for a chop. And where Daniel leads, others have followed so we asked MELISSA SHEDDEN to put the Cosmopolitan version to the test.

She says: "Although I liked the concept of the winge, in reality it didn't work as well as I had hoped it would.

"With only six shades, it is almost impossible to find a perfect match to your hair and it looks quite artificial. But for a night out I would give it a go. I loved the contrast in my look and it was easy to use. With two small clips you just lock it in place and go.

"But I'd advise taking it to your hairdresser to thin out and shape it to fit your style first, so you get a more natural look."

The Cosmopolitan Sexy Straight fringe costs £19.20 - see hot-hair.co.uk.
